2027 Gerald Internship Program – Investment Department
About the Company:
Gerald is one of the oldest and the world’s largest commodity trading companies focused purely on the merchanting of non-ferrous, ferrous, and precious metals, as well as related concentrates and raw materials. For six decades, we have distinguished ourselves as the leading market specialists in the trading of all forms of refined metals and raw materials around the world. We take pride in our well-earned reputation as a dedicated and trusted partner to top-tier miners and processors, industrial consumers, and major financial institutions.
About The Internship Program:
We are looking to hire an intern for our 10-week summer internship program, which will run from June to August. The intern will sit with the Investment team and support the evaluation of new investment and financing opportunities, as well as the analysis of Gerald’s own mining operations. The program will build practical skills in financial modelling, deal analysis and commodity market research, and gives the intern a close look at how a metals trading house invests.
What We Are Looking For:
- Applicants must be in their junior or senior year at a 4-year accredited college or university, or enrolled in a Master’s program.
- Must be able to work full time (40 hours/week) in our Stamford, CT office, 5 days a week.
- Have a strong interest in commodities, natural resources, or industrial sectors.
- Major in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy or a related field. A mining or metals background is a plus, not a requirement.
- Excellent analytical and financial modelling skills, with the ability to make insightful recommendations and solve problems based on critical thinking and analysis.
- Capability to synthesize complex technical information into succinct reports for management.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Self-starter, able to work independently or in a team environment and take the initiative.
- Advanced Excel (financial modelling and valuation) and PowerPoint.
- Multi-lingual candidates are a plus.
What The Intern Will Do:
- Build and update financial models for mining assets and structured trade finance deals (offtake, prepayment and similar structures).
- Research metals markets and write short notes for the team.
- Support due diligence on new opportunities and help prepare investment memos and presentations.
- Work with the team on operating and financial analysis for Gerald’s own mines.
- Ad hoc projects as assigned.
In our exciting opportunity as an intern, you will gain hands-on experience and expand your professional development. You will be welcomed as a part of the Gerald family where you will enjoy company luncheons, have access to the fitness facility, and have the option to join the company’s kickball team. Interns may be offered full-time employment upon completion of the internship program.
We are an equal-opportunity employer. Our teams consist of professionals with diverse backgrounds and skill sets, all of which contribute to the efficacy and profitability of our operations.
